In the end of August, Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an offensive in the Kherson region, advancing up to 10 kilometers in three directions and liberating the northern part of the region.

A week after that, another offensive was launched in the Kharkiv region. In mere days, the mechanized and tank units of UAF achieved breakthrough near Balakliia town and advanced 50 kilometers deep behind the russians' defensive lines, reaching the Oskil river and cutting off the occupied city of Izyum from resupply. The offensive ended up completely obliterating an entire front and causing a general rout of the russian forces. The newly formed 3rd Army Corps that the russians sent as reinforcements also got wiped out.
