Artist's comment:

Ya know… it wasn't until rather recently that I had a thought: the Apple Siblings are really the only ones we see struggling with the loss of their parents. Sure, there are a few brief moments with Chiffon Swirl (Mrs. Cake) and Burnt Oak, but they never really went into much detail on that front. Think about it: Chiffon Swirl was BEST FRIENDS with Pear Butter and Burnt Oak was practically raised alongside Bright Macintosh. Surely they'd be impacted by the loss of their friends, too!

Which is why I'm making a little mini-series depicting Mrs. Cake & Burnt Oak after Pear Butter and Bright Mac were lost to them. The first one showcases Mrs. Cake happily watching her children work on their first solo creation. It's not the prettiest looking cake, but seeing Pumpkin Cake on the ladder adding the finishing touch of a decorative pumpkin reminded her all too well of her early days in the kitchen when Pear Butter would assist her. She regrets that she didn't meet Mr. Cake until later in life thus leading to the later birth of her children. She wishes Pear Butter could've met them and they could've been raised with the Apple Siblings. But at this particular moment in time, Mrs. Cake feels a presence next to her and tears build up in her eyes.

Pear Butter is still here. Watching over her, helping her, and being her best friend until the end of time.
