Griffons as the focus. It being there society that has become a cyberpunk like dystopia due to the need to compete with pony magic and their technology and general ability to get along
Could also show how globalism affects different cultures negativity despite the ponies trying to help as they always do. Griffons just are a lower tier life form compared to ponies. They are greedy and cruel to each other. It's their nature

That'd probably be an improvement, yes.
Honestly I think the Sunjackers concept, minus the trans and diabetes stuff, would be better if it had griffons in it instead. Their society is inherently more sucky than ponies', and cybernetic implants might be their way of becoming as powerful as pony spellcasters.
Probably not. Do other species exist in this world? I can imagine griffons making sausage, and having a saying about not wanting to eat it if you know what goes into it.
