It is after several years (since season 7), she comes to the castle of Canterlot with just her helmet, which she kept which is the proof of her rejection. She throws her helmet on the ground in front of Luna who is surprised to see her.
Thinking that she was receiving the worst treatment, and that she accepts his punishment for everything she does, all Luna does to her … is forgive her, hug her and cry hot tear on her.
Luna thanked fate that Nightmare Moon was still alive and well. Even though she's been wrong in the past, she just wants to turn the page and forgive her twin sister.
Nitghmare Moon, faced with this reaction she did not expect, apologized several times in tears. Telling her that she did it was wrong … and that she wants to change, not to be that arrogant pony that she once was.
Luna certainly advised her that something he liked, if staying at the castle didn't suit her. Nightmare Moon thought a bit and told Luna that she was going to go and open a shop in town … and instead of giving the other pony nightmares, she would sell dreams!

The first part of a little project I have in mind, about the Ryoku Verse with antagonist of the show.
This will be articulated in 3 steps:
-the first part is the excuse, you will see the antagonist return to the character or characters who hurt him the most to apologize for their act.
-the second part is acceptance, where the character agrees to forgive the antagonist.
-the third and final part is the afterlife, where the antagonist takes on a new life.
The first antagonist is Nightmare Moon who is, in my universe, an independent character from Princess Luna. She comes back to apologize for having controlled her without her knowing it and for having misbehaved like this.
