Cosmos was originally going to be the secondary main villain of the MLP movie, and he was non other, that Celestia and Luna’s long lost brother. Unlike the two sisters, he was obsessed with power, he despised the way his sisters used it, and wanted to conquer Equestria and move on to all their allies. In some concept art he wore parts of the defeated races he conquered to add insult to injury. The Storm King was actually going to be terrifying, almost a sauron like figure. If you think this is too dark for MLP, well…Hasbro and the creators thankfully agreed, they figured it would take too much time to explain his backstory and saw him as way too scary, think 90’s Disney scary. They then scraped that and went with Tempest Shadow who was a far better choice, she was a villain you instantly got, and felt bad for when you learned her history. And The final Storm King was just rather funny.

Regarding Spike, he was indeed originally going to be turned into a seadragon, this still would lead to some comedic moments with him not liking it at all, and being unable to control how he swims at first. They decided on a pufferfish cause they thought it was a bit funnier and did not want to portray him as that dumb, it makes more sense for him to act the way he did as a pufferfish rather than a have no idea what he’s doing as a seadragon…but I would have preferred that.


Also the pirates were originally going to be numerous.

And finally, Capper was going to be a fox.
