or she popped into my head during another half-asleep half dream half daydream.
her back story is as follows:
She washed up in equestria when she was young, having barely escaped her homeland during a battle. Her parents were killed by ponies when she was very young, just another part of the ongoing wars. but because of it she hates ponies and lives alone in a deep forest at the edge of equestria. She has no home and although she hides it well and likes to pretend it isn't so, she's very lonely. She puts on a hard act but deep down she is still just a helpless girl growing up without her family or any friends, all alone in a dangerous forest.
In the scenario where I imagined her, I (as a pony of course) was exploring a forest when I encountered her and she attacked me. some playful scrapping occurred and we ended up falling down a ridge into a small alcove by the sea. it was a small sandy clearing and the wall we fell down was far too steep for us to get out of, even with her standing on the tip of her tail. the cliffs spanned too wide for us to swim to a part we could climb up and the water would be too cold for her anyway, and the one time I DID try a freaking shark came up. woops.
So we were stuck for a few days and were forced to get along. she tried to stay prickly and cold but it was clear she wanted company deep down. at night I noticed she was shivering, and after falling asleep I would wake up with her pressed up to me with her tail wrapped around me, either subconsciously trying to cling to the nearest warm object or she consciously did it (the second time). I even had to teach her to fish, after making a makeshift rod using some junk that had washed up.
Eventually rainbow dash flew by and spotted us and got the others. Twilight lifted us up in a neat bubble and I said goodbye to her and we went our separate ways. but she seemed grateful. she had made me a small carving out of a piece of wood, and said it was a custom among her people to display a gift to portray their gratitude.
on the way back us ponies talked and we decided on something, and after a short trip into the edge of everfree near ponyville we found the perfect spot.
I went by myself all the way back to the forest, it took all day. when I got there it was dark.
It was definitely scarier than I remember. and at one point I got caught in a sticky web. I looked up and saw a giant spider about to attack me and screamed but suddenly a spear shot through it and killed it and I saw Saria standing there.
She took me back to where she slept, under some bushes by a big tree. she asked why I was there and I said I came to give her a gift. it was so late i had to sleep there and managed to convince her the next morning to come back and we went all the way back to ponyville. she seemed much more happy to talk. i she seemed delighted to talk about the species of spider that nearly ate me, probably knowing she was making me feel uncomfortable by telling me it would have swallowed me whole instead of biting me and- you know. but I liked that she seemed more lively.
she didn't want me to give her anything, and she didn't want to go too close to ponyville, and was even reluctant about seeing my friends again, but watching her face light up when she saw the tree house we'd built up around a big tree in the clearing we found was all worth it. and she was so happy to finally have a home at last. "I have a bath! I have a bed! I HAVE A KITCHEN!" she exclaimed as she darted about the house. is was adorable.
And so Saria agreed to live here in the everfree forest only a short walk from ponyville. she wouldn't be bothered there but it wasn't deep enough to be dangerous.
I'll definitely be drawing this girl again lots. she's so cute. and it was fun to draw to. I had to experiment a lot with her character design and also I still cannot seem to come up wit han eye style I like. I changed it a god 3 or 4 times.
And 'd like to differentiate this "naga" from a "lamia". this girl here is a Lamia:
