I got hit with inspiration once I've recently consumed some MLP content again in preparations for GalaCon this year and got reminded of the cute fact that BigMacintosh, the older brother of Applejack, actually kept Smarty Pants, Twilight's former doll, for himself and actually enjoys having it! I wanted to draw something cute and warm inspired by it
I think this draws an interesting message: Do not lose your inner child. While Big Mac clearly is a grown-up hard-working character, he can still enjoy this little piece that might remind him of childhood, warmth and a carefree time. Similar to people who enjoy still having their childhood plush or collecting plushies or figurines just because they enjoy it! Why not have a small, cuddly companion that probably only serves as a stress-relief in the evening to cuddle with, even if you're a grown-up man? I'm sure we all could need times and things like that
So in my book, I feel like BigMac just does that — secretly, but still. Smarty Pants might not be his foalhood plush but she's still a cute dolly, even if a little worn out over time. I just think that idea is cute and wanted to draw it
I'm honestly very happy with this piece and how I managed to draw BigMac (especially how his freckles look and his gentle smile as well as fur texture), but even more so — Smarty Pants! I tried very hard, using both brushmarkers as well as Coloured Pencils to make her look fluffy, maybe a bit scruffy like a plushie that has been loved a lot by a foal, by creating textures, adding layers of different colours to acheive that look I must say, I'm very happy with it and would love to hear your thoughts about it! Do you still have your childhood plushie? And if so, what is it? Can you relate to Bic Macintosh here?
This drawing will be available at my booth at GalaCon!
