Only six months on, in the spring of 1007 A.D., the Badlands region found itself plunged into the mayhem of civil war, reaching from the Hive that scraped the sky to the tiniest village of the outbacks. Neighbour turned on neighbour. Broodmate against broodmate.
Equestria, both honouring their newly forged alliance with King Thorax and determined to crush the scourge of Chrysalis once and for all, rolled their forces into the Badlands for the very first time. It was at this moment many historians would agree that the Badlands War truly began.
Raging from the spring of 1007 to the winter of 1009 A.D., the war would become known as one of the most deadly and destructive conflicts of the modern era, the profound effects of which would be felt by changeling and ponykind alike for generations.
The Desolation is an anthology of firsthand accounts of those whose lives were upended by this conflict, be they the Equestrian conscript who yearns to go home, the young grub forced to grow up far too soon, or those thousands of miles away from the fighting yet still unable to escape its reach.
