Statement of Shining Armor, regarding a necklace he bought for his fiancée.
She never took the necklace off once. When we curled up to go to bed, I noticed that her hair smelled like honey. As I held her, I felt the buzzing under her skin again. It was stronger this time, and I could feel it moving everywhere. I could tell that she had already fallen asleep, and I knew that Cady was a deep sleeper. So, I reached out and turned on the bedside lamp.
She didn’t flinch as the light fell across her. I let out my breath slowly and reached for her pajama top, slowly pulling up the back, where I had felt the buzzing the strongest. There were bumps there. Small ones, but still visible, and visibly moving, pulsing, vibrating under her skin. I reached out a finger and stroked one of the bulges, felt it buzzing under my touch before it slid away from my hand.
I tried it with another one, this time pressing down a little harder, as though to squash it. As I did so, though, the buzzing got louder, angrier. Cady grunted and writhed in her sleep as the bumps began to all move toward my finger.
