Emerald agrees to go down and help with the cannons. The pair are instructed to stand near a cannon and run downstairs and grab whatever cannonball the firing team needs.

Said team that Emerald is standing near are all peering out of the gun port. They are all too big and beefy for Emerald to see around, so he glances around the room and sees that many are doing the same, and that Ruby has managed to squeeze her way near one of the windows.

All of a sudden every single crew gets into position, and a stallion near Emerald lights what appears to him to resemble a sparkler. Emerald can smell it from here, and it smells a lot like burning metal.

A sudden hush falls over the room, and the only noise is from the people on deck.

All of a sudden there is a command to fire, and the stallion puts the stick in a hole on top of the cannon.

There is an impossibly loud, earth shattering boom that causes Emerald to reel and he cowers to the floor and covers his ears.

"Go, child! Some of the chain-shot!" The stallion barks at Emerald, who he can barely hear over the ringing in his ears.

Emerald darts up in a panic, happy for any reason to leave the room. He sees Ruby already coming back up with what appears to be chain-shot as well, and she grins as she passes.

Emerald runs down the stairs and finds one of the pair of cannonballs connected by a chain, and slowly hauls it back up to the cannon room. He meets a pirate halfway who takes it from him and says, "There you are. Give me that!"

He then takes the ball and runs the rest of the way to the cannon.
