Backstory:

Sunburst was born in Siren's Hall, a small town in South-Western Equestria, to 2 unicorns- Stellar Flare and Sunspot. His parents’ marriage was dysfunctional, in fact they were considering getting divorced before they found out Stellar was pregnant, and since a young age he had to listen to his parents’ fights. He coped with that trough daydreaming and a little later on with books. He learned how to read quite young actually, which lead to Stellar believing he was some sort of a prodigy and she home schooled him.

Sunburst was an introvert by nature so he spent a lot of his time alone. Paradoxically, this lead to him feeling lonely, but he was too shy to reach out to anypony in his town. However, this would change soon.

At 11 he met a filly called Starlight at the local library and they quickly bonded over their love for magic and books. It wasn’t long before Sunburst developed a small crush on her either, but his dreams of ever getting together with her would be crushed when he got his cutie mark.

He got his cutie mark by performing an organization spell, which is easier for many unicorns, but it got his cutie mark regardless and when his parents heard that they send him off to Queen Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns.

At first Sunburst was really excited. He performed great on most tests, but when it came to doing spells he had a really hard time. Things got harder and harder every year until he decided it wasn’t worth it anymore and flunked out at 16.

With nothing to support himself with financially he ended up on the streets. Luckily his father found him. It turns out that his parents divorced while he was gone and Sunspot had moved to Canterlot and opened a casino. Not wanting his son to end up as a hobo, he offered Sunburst a home until he could get back on his hooves.

Not having to worry about begging strangers on the streets for money now, Sunburst returned to his old unhealthy coping mechanisms such as daydreaming and reading so he wouldn't have to focus on reality. He thought he had enough time to fix things so he put off taking care of everything for a really long time.

Sunspot got impatient with his son and even started giving him small jobs at the casino, so he wouldn’t be completely unemployed. Sunburst still refused to take responsibility, which caused a lot of arguments between him and his dad. Sunspot even started getting physically aggressive at times.

Sunburst really wanted to move away, or at least run away, but he didn’t know how or where. He had read about a place called ‘’the Crystal Empire’’ a few times in his books, but most of them said it was just a fantastical setting and not real.

At 20 the Crystal Empire resurfaced getting Sunburst’s hopes up. He packed his things, said goodbye to his father, after stealing some money off of him as revenge, and went on his merry way.

In the Crystal Empire he started working as a librarian considering his love for books. He soon had enough money to buy his own house and live peacefully in the Empire. Everything seemed perfect at least on a surface level. Sunburst felt like he had a greater purpose than this and deeply regretted flunking out of magic school, but he didn’t know what to do.

At 23 the new princess of the Empire, Flurry Heart, was born. Since she was an alicorn she accidentally destroyed the Crystal Heart with her magic. His friend Starlight, who he had reunited with earlier that day, told him and Sunburst knew just the spell to fix everything. After proving himself useful Cadence and Shining Armor made him Flurry’s crystaller and employed him as a royal wizard. Sunburst finally felt like he had fulfilled his purpose.

Starlight moved to the empire just a year later and started working as a royal wizard as well. With Starlight so close, Sunburst felt his feelings for her return again, but he hadn’t expected them to get so close that quickly. One night, after a party, they did the censored action in a fit of drunken lust. A month later they found out Starlight was pregnant. They slowly started falling apart, because of this event. Sunburst admitted that he loved her and that he would help her take care of the foal. She agreed and soon the two of them were in love again. Bellator was born several months later and both of them recall it as one of the happiest moments in their life.

They started planning on getting married after their son’s birth, but in order to do that Sunburst would have to reach out to his parents or at least his mother. His father was an asshole likes usual, but Stellar Flare was more than happy to hear from her son again. Sunburst made peace with his mother and him and Starlight had the happiest wedding ever.

5 years after Bellator Starlight and Sunburst had another son- Starbeam.



Personality:

Sunburst is still the nerd he was growing up. Whenever somepony around him mentions something about magic he is quickly to explain everything he knows about that spell. When it comes to his family he is a really caring husband and father. He is especially kind to his sons, because he has a secret fear of turning out like his father. This is taken to an extent where he spoils them. He is still pretty introverted and likes to isolate himself at times, but he makes sure he is there for his friends and family when they need him.



Additional info:

- He was born with a slight disability that makes his magic not as powerful as it actually is. He found out about it much later on in life, but it doesn’t bother him.
