This just had to be made! A side-by-side comparison of the awesome PMV, No Matter What, We’re Friends, and the ending sequence of Love Live! Season 2 that inspired it.
No Matter What, We’re Friends is one of the best PMVs in the fandom, and it's quite a shame that it isn't too well known. Its song, animation, voice acting and lyrics completely blew me away when I first watched it; the video was a big reason why I became a fan of Love Live in the first place. As you can see, Racecarghost did an fantastic job ponifying Donna Toki Mo Zutto.
Despite their different premises, Love Live and MLP have a similar appeal. They both are light-hearted slice-of-life shows with strong themes of friendship and reaching your dreams, and have a cast of adorable female characters. Even their fanbases are primarily made up of grown men. But the two series are more connected than one might think. In the Japanese version of MLP, Applejack and Nico share the same voice actress, as well as Umi and Pinkie Pie (!!). In addition, the lyricist of the Love Live franchise wrote My Little Pony's Japanese opening, Mirai Start, which is sung by the voice of Umi.
Being sloppy and shallow is good, because caring is dumb! Also school totally matters! *rhymes "go and visit you" with "go and visit you"* We can do stuff as a team! Oh by the way it's your fault if you're too slow. Keep working hard for your masters, even when your life sucks, because it's alright these fictional characters will be here to spout empty platitudes at you! That way we can keep abusing you and get away with it, ha! Being young is cool, and being old is bad! When we ruin everything, you should think of how good things used to be, so you'll feel too sad to do anything to to stop us.
