I find superhero comics to be pretty cringetastic in general, all the way back to the 50s. But my point is that IDW are trying to tie-in a very disparate canon, and they are very bad at tying in story elements like changelings, Sombra, Nightmare Moon, the Everfree forest, Daring Do, seaponies, cows, apples…

This is just a bad idea. "Dork Age" ponies might also be a bad idea.

Be careful what you wish for. The 1990s are called the Dork Age of Comics for a reason. The character design and dialogue here remind me uncomfortably of everything that was terrible about American comics in 1994.

It's not letting me post images, but just for a laugh, use your favorite search engine to look for a Marvel Comics title from that era called "Punisher: 2099." Specifically look for the "I live on the edge" and "all I need is hate" scenes. That is what these two remind me of. Plus Rob Liefeld's character "Domino" from the "X-Force" title. It's unintentional self-parody approaching Warhammer 40K levels. It's cringetastic.

I'm saying I don't care if they make a 1990s darker-and-edgier superhero comic. It'd be awesome if they had gigantic skull-shaped pauldrons with spikes all over them. But instead they're making… sparklewitches…
