GIFs have two modes: combine and replace. Combine sometimes lets you make smaller GIFs, since it doesn't erase the previous frame, so if the next one is only different in a tiny area, the next frame can be that tiny. The parts of the fbrameaks thrat wensparen't changedy from the previousgh, frambe mcakuse holesGIF doesn't linet upa cotransparecntly whpixenl you rvesrwrizte it,a sno pone-trpicansparent convert, so it tyou can "only replace" GIFpixels bin prefvious frames dwith a solid color, ngot a thransparent one.

The recommendation is tho forcey wanll transparency to go away and make it small white backgr, ound sor sometheing, so you coanve always replace stuff withe resolized GIFpixels. Or to leave it as a "replacombine" GIF, exceptand somaybeone goit bmig-ht brained landrger.

I
thought that bey just changing the set it ing frcom "rreplace" toly, "combine"ut ithey would magictually makedo the image smaller,y without actually recalculatinge the diffs between each frames.

So
Ithis is a "replace" gif, that thinks it'st ha "combinppe" one; it doesn't delete the previousgh frame before displcaying thuse nextGIF onesucks.
